"I suggest we learn to love ourselves before it's made illegal..."
Full Name: Aurora Nafrini Nyx
Nicknames: Rori to the people of the 'newer' world. Nafrini (meaning: 'she brings beauty')when she was a child in Egypt. Her best friend calls her Anny; taking the first letter of her first and middle name and the first two of her last.
Gender: Female
Age: She was born in ancient Egyptian time. She appears to be in her late twenties to everyone.
Species: Warlock
Occupation: She owns a very successful shop in Manhattan, NY called Face Magick. It's in essence a beauty supply shop filled with all natural products. Two floors of soaps, lotions, shampoos and conditioners, makeup, perfumes, and much more. A trade she's learned in her very long time on this world.
Alliance: (Circle, Clave, or Neutral): Her alliance is to herself. She doesn't choose a side as not to piss off one side more than the other. In essence, she will always swing to 'good'.
Eye color: A chocolate brown. There is a circle around the middle of her iris that illuminates silver. It's the demon mark on her. It's apparent and obvious to anyone she meets and she doesn't try and hide it. Her eyes will change to various, striking colors when she does magic.
Hair color: Dark brown. She keeps her natural color mostly, but has cut it to many different lengths and styles over the years. Currently, it falls a little past the middle of her back.
Build (Lean, bulky, etc.): She's thin and toned, but has curves all the same.
Height: 5'7"
Important marks or distinguishing things (Scars, important Marks, facial pointers, etc.): The silver ring around her eyes. When performing magic, various black marks will appear on her skin that looks like runes, but not that of Shadowhunters. You will also see parts of her skeletal structure illuminate slightly under her skin.
Fashion sense: (great, amazing, bad, terrible, etc. Then have a sample ensemble your character would wear) Aurora's fashion depends on her mood and where she's going. Being that she's been around for quite some length, she has picked up trends from around the world and all over time. She mostly will be seen in flowy, flirty, and printed dresses and heels.
Face Claim: Rosario Dawson
Quirks:
She talks like she's from a different time period at times. Maybe it's because of her love for an older world.
Likes:
~Her shop! She loves empowering women and finding and creating new products is her fav thing to do.
~Eating! Thank the gods for her high metabolism.
~Traveling! Despite being so old, Aurora loves traveling the world. She loves forests the most and finding quiet places to meditate.
~Reading! All day, everyday. Give her more!
Strengths:
*Her magic. It's second nature. It is an extension of her because of how long she's been using it.
*Her knowledge. She loves reading and will read any and everything. Fiction and Non-fiction. She's thankful mundanes and downworlders have never stopped writing since the beginning of time. Traveling and learning from scholars and other warlocks have helped in this and coincide with her magic.
*Connections. Aurora knows many people around the city and the world, mostly due to her father.
*Combat. She's learned different forms of combat techniques if magic isn't an option.
Dreams/Ambitions:
^Learning more about her biological parents.
^Finding someone to settle with.
Dislikes:
-Ignorance. Mundanes to shadowhunters to downworlders. Any form of it drives her absolutely insane.
-The separating of the world into those 'with us' and 'against us'. It will only lead to more war and death. Both seeming to be what these 'sides' really want.
-Fish. EW!
Weaknesses:
@her need to want to help people. It can sometimes bring trouble. She's learned to be more cautious of those seeking aid.
@aurora will become extremely drained after performing magic in a large scale. She has come to find her demon father was very powerful and Aurora can sometimes lose herself to the demon side when doing heavy magic.
@despite wanting to help those in need, mostly mundanes, she doesn't trust many downworlders and shadowhunters. It leaves her fairly alone if she were to ever need assistance from a more powerful bunch.
Fears:
%Being alone for eternity.
%Losing herself to the demon part that runs in her veins.
%Treaties being broken among the factions that will trickle into a more chaotic war she sees coming.
Overall personality:
Aurora is intelligent, quick witted, and confident. If she's not in her shop, Aurora is mostly kept to herself. Traveling, shopping, and making new products gives her the most happiness. To most she would seem happy and successful, but in private, she's very troubled about her past. Aurora constantly wants to be in control. She wants to have a handle on every situation at any point in time. She has bouts of anxiety which she thanks her past for.
Overall history:
Aurora or Nafrini, was born of an egyptian woman and demon father. Her mother was a lady in waiting to the queen, Cleopatra. When Nafrini was born, the queen was highly upset when her mother couldn't tell Cleopatra who it was that fathered the baby. Nafrini's skin was too light to be that of an egyptian man and the queen began to suspect her mother had had an affair with either Antony or Caesar. Learning that the queen may have her executed, her mother left the temple with her baby and escaped their deaths.
Nafrini could never be accepted anywhere she went because of her lighter skin and no father around. Therefore, her mother and she stayed on the outskirts of a village for years and years. Nafrini seemed to not age at the normal rate of a human child. Her mother had given birth fifteen years ago, yet Nafrini remained a toddler. One night as a young child, she woke up screaming and crying. Her mother ran to Nafrini and saw the silver rings begin to burn into her eyes.
Nafrini's mother never shunned her child for being what she was, but knew the outside world would not accept her. Another fifteen years passed and Nafrini's mother grew sick and was dying. It was the night of her mother's last breaths that her foster father walked into their very humble home. Nafrini appeared to be about twelve years of age as a human. The man looked to her mother who was taking shallow breaths and then back to Nafrini who cried quietly next to her mother's bed.
He walked slowly to Nafrini's side and touched her shoulder in comfort saying, "It appears I was brought to this spot for you, little one." Nafrini didn't reply, but her mother's eyes opened and saw the man standing there. Words seemed to pass between the two silently and her mother died with a smile.
The man who had taken her in was in fact a fellow warlock. His name was Deidrick Sparrow and had never, to this day, given Aurora his actual age. Whenever she would bring up the topic of that night and how he knew to be there, his reply to her would always be 'fate'. He was a quiet being with coppery colored skin and salt and pepper short cut hair. Deidrick always encouraged Nafrini to embrace the mundanes, for it was not their fault for being as they are. She even pleaded to go to school like normal mundane children. However, it didn't last long when she was spotted in the nearby woods doing things normal mundie children wouldn't be doing...
At a young age, Nafrini changed her first name to Aurora, but never dropped the original name her mother had given her. Magic had come natural to her as well and her father was a great teacher. She started to progressively grow older in appearance at a faster rate and seemed to slow when she reached the current state she is in now.
She began growing flowers and other various plants in their home, trying to find the one she could remember her mother smelling sweetly of. It was then Aurora learned of her love for creating perfumes, creams, and lotions. Soon her booming business started with Deidrick as her business partner. He remained in the background as she took on the front lines!
Whenever there is down time, Aurora will most likely be in a wooded area meditating and trying to find peace and quiet from a city that is constantly on the move. Her favorite magic involves that with nature.
Sexuality: Aurora is attracted to both men and women, but the scale tips much more towards men. She's been in relationships with both before.
Marital status: Single. She isn't dating anyone currently and has somewhat given up on finding love after all these years.
Love interests: No one in particular.
Hometown: New Hope, PA
Father's name: Biological: Uknown demon. Foster: Deidrick Sparrow.
Mother's name + maiden name: Biological: Unknown
Siblings: None. That she knows of..
Non-blood family: The people who work for her at the shop. Some of them are downworlders while other are mundanes. Her best friend, Kayla, a mundane she finds most interesting. She is quite the opposite of Aurora and finds that appealing to her balance.
RP sample:
Morning. Uuugh... Didn't matter how many years Aurora roamed this earth, she was never a morning person. The sun came in through her floor to ceiling windows, shining brightly and awfully on Aurora. Why did she buy those see-through sheer white curtains again? "Uuuugh..," she audibly moaned, rolling over in her queen-sized bed. She splayed out dramatically to stretch out her muscles. Her head turned to the other side of the bed and found it empty like always. "Like always."
"Rori!"
"Uuuugh..."
"Zombies aren't real. Wake up." Deidrick walked in. As always he was smiley and chipper and fully dressed in a fashion savvy suit. Today it was different shades of blue. "It's 8am. You're still in bed."
"Yes. A habit I like and will continue to like until the world ends or 8am is suddenly eradicated from the clock. I still favor all numbers after 10. Even if they aren't on the clock."
Deidrick sat on the side of the bed Aurora was sleeping in and pushed the hair from her face. "How about I just destroy all memory of businesses starting work at 9am and push it to 7am instead?"
Aurora dramatically picked her head up and blew the rest of her hair from her face. "You wouldn't!!! You couldn't!! FIEND!!!"
"Ah, she protests!"
"You're a horrible, horrible man!!" Aurora threw her head down on her pillow and covered herself with the fluffy, white down comforter that she loved and adored coming home to every night.
It was not more than two seconds when the comforter flew off across the room and she was exposed again to the bad, bad man. "Alas, I am a horrible man. But, this horrible man did make you breakfast as a peace offering to your interrupted slumber."
Aurora watched as the tray of food began floating into the room. She could smell the pancakes, coffee, and sausage as it came closer to her suddenly grumbling stomach. FIEND! The tray landed gently in her lap after she sat up in the bed and eyed Deidrick with fake suspicion. "It's poisoned."
"It is not."
"Lies."
He feigned nonchalant interest and shrugged. "Well... I can't very well kill you. Your mixtures of smelly good things in the house could never be duplicated through magic or those silly candles you can buy in those mall stores."
She eyed him sideways with a squint. "Clearly you are correct, wise one." Aurora grabbed a piece of sausage and downed it in two bites. "And this is why I can't kill you! Magic and mundanes can't produce such good food!"
Deidrick smiled and glanced at his watch. He audibly sighed and she knew the little game was over. "I have to go."
"Another meeting?" Aurora asked, sipping her coffee. He even made the best coffee ever.
He smiled. It wasn't a real one. It was a reassuring smile that meant to say 'everything is fine, don't be suspicious'. It wasn't fooling her. She didn't give in to her suspicions though and continued drinking her coffee as if his reply meant nothing.
"Sadly. I'll be home to make dinner later if you like?"
She put her mug down and looked to her foster father with as much fakeness as he would give to her. Aurora knew it wasn't fooling him either, but she wondered if he ever thought that one day she would dig deeper into wanting to know what was really going on with him. "No. Think I may go out with the coworkers tonight."
He raised an eyebrow. "That's good to hear. You aren't running off to the woods for a change."
She gave a little smirk and shrug before picking up her coffee and taking another sip as if to end the conversation. He rose from the bed and crossed the room, his skin glistening in copper sparkles as he passed through the sunlight momentarily.
Deidrick turned back to her at the entrance of her room. "Have a good day, Rori."
Aurora gave him the same phony smile and added a nod this time before he walked away and she could hear him leave through the front door. She hopped out of bed and went to the window which faced out into the street, peeking through the curtains. Deidrick came into view where he stepped into the waiting limo to take him to his meeting.
She sat down on the bench under the window and watched the car pull away. Aurora wanted to follow him, but was always afraid to find out where it was he was going. Secrets were something that she and Deidrick never had between them, but this... this was apparently one he could not confide in her with. She put her head against the wall and watched as the world passed by for a few minutes until finally deciding tomorrow. She would somehow find a way to follow him... tomorrow.
